In 2002, Laura Hart’s design genius was uncovered by an investor who was flipping houses in Charlotte’s Elizabeth neighborhood. He recognized her keen eye and flawless taste, her impeccable style. Before long, builder after builder began calling Laura to help with selections for high-end spec homes. She went on to open retail space at Slate, a furniture and art collective in Charlotte’s eclectic Plaza Midwood neighborhood, fulfilling her passion of exploring the latest in the design world, constantly on the lookout for pieces that Charlotte had yet to see. But Laura much preferred designing for clients on a personal level, so she closed her retail space to focus on client work. After several years of continued growth, Laura took stock of her goals for Harthouse: She knew that she wanted to be wildly creative. She wanted to connect with more clients and to focus on calculated growth. And she wanted to have fun. Enter Laura Bowers, owner of Wise Design!

Old friends with a lot in common, including children the same age and successful interior design businesses, the Lauras decided to partner up on a few projects—and the results were awesome. Their chemistry encouraged an easy flow of work between them, allowing each designer’s strengths and aesthetics to flourish. They finished each other’s sentences. They built on each other’s ideas and drew energy from each other’s creativity, finally landing on designs so fresh and memorable that even they were surprised! And the back-end of the process was absolutely smooth sailing, with MBA-minded Laura Bowers ensuring projects were clearly communicated, on time and on budget. They realized they had something really special. They were better together than they were apart! AND it was a lot more fun.

Today the Lauras can often be found poring over fabrics and wallpaper at their studio, a creative space and resource library that they share with several other designers, or discussing furnishings and accessory lines over a mid-morning power-walk. They’ll greet you with smiles that are real and enthusiasm that’s contagious. You’ll see the wheels turning and feel the creativity brimming over, as they listen to your vision for your home. And you’ll begin to get really excited about what’s in store.
